Michell Instruments Wins Major RAF Order

Michell Instruments, the leading European manufacturer of industrial hygrometers, has fulfilled a major contract to supply the RAF with over sixty specially modified portable Cermax hygrometers. Worth approximately £¼ million, the contract was won following a competitive tender and the subsequent successful testing of a prototype specially designed for the RAF by Michell Instruments.

The Cermax portable hygrometers are being used by the RAF to measure the moisture content of Nitrogen and Oxygen, both of which are used in vital RAF systems. Nitrogen is primarily used in RAF weapon systems, while Oxygen is used for aircraft servicing operations, aircraft onboard systems, and in breathing apparatus.

Based on Michell Instruments' proven ceramic moisture sensor technology, the Cermax portable hygrometers offer exceptionally high levels of performance, reliability and accuracy. In particular, the instruments are capable of operating to an accuracy of ±1ºC from -60ºC to +20ºC dewpoint and ±2ºC from -100ºC to -60ºC dewpoint with a resolution of 0.1ºC dewpoint across the entire range.

Furthermore, the portable hygrometers are extremely easy to use and operate, with a simple drop down menu system, with recorded dewpoint data being displayed on a multi-functional LCD display.

Each hygrometer has been specially configured with a complete sample conditioning system to suit the RAF's exact needs, all within a rugged military specification carry case. This military specification Cermax is now fully NATO stock listed and available for general sale.
